Hi folks- the Book of Polish has been on a major hiatus as of late but we are back in action! I came across this photo series this morning of cats and "sexy men"  and it is friggin hilarious. Des Hommes and des Chatons is a blog that pairs photos of celebrities and other general hotties alongside felines striking an almost identical pose. The results are amazing.

gallery walls

lately, the gent and I have become a little art obsessed.  framing old maps, hanging vintage looking puzzles, and creating our own art on canvas.  I have to admit I'm loving the gallery wall idea and am completely inspired by the following photos.  How much art do you think we could squeeze into one little studio?

These photos by Beijing based artist Jasper James are truly beautiful. 

From the artist: 

‘These photos are part of an ongoing project that I have been shooting for the past few years in various cities around Asia. Sometime in 2008, the number of people living in urban areas outnumbered those living in rural areas for the first time in history. I thought it would be interesting to shoot portraits of these city dwellers combined with the image of a cityscape.

‘The images are made in camera with just a basic adjustment in contrast and colours but no retouching. I’m currently planning exhibitions of the images and looking for an interested publisher.’

At the edge of the world

These magical photos are by dutch artist Scarlett Hooft Graafland.  She produces her work in remote locations where the inhabitants have been forced to adapt to the natural conditions, creating site-specific installations inspired by local traditions and materials.  Pretty stunning work. 

"I am filled with nostalgia for places where people are very close to nature," says Graafland. "Places where people have barely interfered with nature. The wonder of nostalgia for places you have never been to. The wonder of creating situations that have never existed before and will probably never exist again. Situations that are possible but very unlikely to occur again. Magic realism."

Bananas...

This is a stunning model of San Francisco made out of....wait for it....toothpicks!

The amount of time and energy that went into constructing this fantasy rendering is honestly staggering. (p.s. it took 35 years, 100,000 toothpicks and 3,000 hours)
